Everybody wants to trust their employer – but not many do, and that\u2019s a fact. The most recent Edelman Trust Barometer<\/a> shows that for the first time in its 26 year history, employees have less trust in their employers to do the right thing. Price Waterhouse Cooper\u2019s Trust Survey <\/a>reveals that just 67% of employees trust their employer, whilst 86% of leaders think they are trusted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The chances that candidates will feel confidence in a potential employer are even lower. So what do recruiters do when – for example 69% of Gen Z candidates<\/a> want clarity on big issues (climate change, DEI and mental health support) and businesses are being increasingly cagey about their stance?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s another issue; recent surveys suggest that although 47% of professionals are actively seeking a new role, 2 in 5 business found it difficult to hire in 2025. There are concerns about pay expectations and current economic conditions, return to work and flexibility, and – of course – the trust gap described above. Recruiters, whether in-house or agency based, have to find a way to move away from reactivity. They must engage equally with candidates and clients and carry value messages from one to the other.
