Successful or self-defeating? How recruiters are facing current challenges
July 26th, 2023 | Industry News
Several commentators have recently pointed out that it’s self-defeating for organisations to cut costs, or corners, on recruitment at present.
Sadly, the industry knows that it’s happening. In a way, the best recruitment software for agencies may have fed this behaviour, by suggesting that recruiting software can do the job of trained professionals, whereas the reality is that even the best recruitment crm can only aid a recruiter to do their job, not replace them. Part of a recruiters role is to advise their clients. While budgets can often be pruned in recruitment – recruitment website design, for example, can be tailored to act as a passive recruitment tool which saves money on advertising, there is still a necessity to help clients understand that recruitment is a complex and sensitive process, which needs the right level of investment to ensure successful hires are made, and stay.

As recruiting cools down – multigenerational and digital teams are the way to go
July 10th, 2023 | Industry News
It’s no surprise that money motivates candidates – but as the best recruitment software for agencies can reveal, money isn’t the only motivator. Given that there are four generations in the current workforce, recruiters need to understand how to engage effectively with candidates across the generational perspectives. As an example Gen Z is the least likely generation to respond to salary while Gen X workers are the most likely to feel underpaid. Of course these are broad generalisations but recruitment website design can be tweaked to give candidates of different generations the opportunity to ‘find themselves’ in job descriptions.

Where is recruitment heading?
June 21st, 2023 | Industry News
If the USA is a harbinger of the recruitment sector in the UK, there are tough times ahead. Massive US job site, ZipRecruiter, says it will lay off 20% of its workforce, and Indeed which has a greater UK presence than ZipRecruiter, laid of 15% of staff worldwide in March. So why is this happening in a time where employers are crying out to fill positions?

Recruitment – online versus face to face
May 19th, 2023 | Industry News
The pandemic may now seem like recent history, but it has changed the face of employment. Employers are struggling to find the balance between remote employees, hybrid ones and a workforce back in the workplace. Social environments have broken down and there are no obvious new ways to create workplace culture. Additionally, the pandemic led to the utilisation of online recruitment tools such as SaaS recruitment agencies in unprecedented numbers.

Using recruiting software to break through the ‘apply anyway’ logjam
May 5th, 2023 | Industry News
Surveys and anecdotes both reveal that HR teams and recruitment consultants are being overwhelmed by applications from under-qualified candidates. It wouldn’t be so bad, if they weren’t also having to trawl through the same slush pile to find the well-qualified individuals who can actually do the job on offer.
In a recent survey of HR professionals, recruiters and hiring managers, three quarters of respondents said that the lack of qualified applicants was the biggest challenge they were facing in 2023.

Tech recruitment slumps as candidates repurpose their skills
April 25th, 2023 | Industry News
From London to China, recruitment agencies are reporting changes in hiring practice as a result of the tech downturn. One tech blog reports that layoffs in the sector so far in 2023 are currently 168,243, which includes Disney planning to lay off 7,000 staffers in three tranches over the year and Amazon cutting 9,000. One place this has really affected is the SAAS industry, including SAAS recruitment agencies, although the impact here has been minimal so far. All industries point to the same macro-economic problems, and many cite the need to develop a more disciplined hiring behaviour as they move towards profitability. While the impact, according to recruitment database software, is not that significant in the UK, the tech sector is proving more dubious about hiring permanent staff so temporary recruitment is experiencing a minor boom. Anecdotally, staffers talk about being laid off one week and re-hired on a short-term contract the week after. this is a reversal of the trend in hiring was a whole, where employers are tending to hire fewer new temporary staff but to extend existing temporary contracts.

Recruitment Software – and how to use it to improve your recruitment processes
March 27th, 2023 | Industry News
Few sectors have changed more quickly and more often than recruiting over the past fews years. Employees are increasingly unhappy in their workplaces, especially in the UK, and while fear of unemployment is keeping some people in role, others have taken the opportunity to move fields, or to move out of paid employment altogether.

The recruiter mindset – and how it needs to change
March 6th, 2023 | Industry News
Despite the continuing volatility in the hiring market, employers and recruiters still tend to think in the old established patterns such as ‘we’re sharing this job with the marketplace and we’ll chose the best candidate’ or ‘we’re opening this opportunity up to the talent pool’. This can be shortsighted. A 2021 survey of 5,000 UK employees found that 89% were thinking about changing jobs. The so called ‘talent pool’ now includes all the people a company already employs and – while employers cast out their lines into the talent pool – other employers are fishing in their existing workforce!
